I’ve really been having fun with the challenge cards I’ve been making recently. In fact, I’ve been enjoying it so much that I’ve decided to make another! As always on my blog, feel free to click any of the card images for a larger view.
The main inspiration for this card was the current sketch for the Freshly Made Sketches challenge. For the main focal point on this card, I created a rectangle using Crafter’s Companion Ultra Smooth card stock. I cut it using the Stitched Rectangle dies from Simon Says Stamp and my Cuttlebug. I had to do some creative die cutting for this since I wanted my rectangle to be narrower than the die. I did this by leaving one edge outside the plates when I ran it through my Cuttlebug. I then repositioned the die to the width I wanted and ran it through again, but this time leaving the previously cut section outside the plates as I ran it through.
I used my MISTI stamping tool to figure out what placement I wanted for my stamped image. I used the Our Friendship Grows stamp set from Lawn Fawn for this card. Since there was a bit of masking involved to get the stem the height I wanted, using the MISTI was the way to go. It makes lining up masked stamping so easy!
- Sunflower petals: Y02, Y06, Y08
- Sunflower center: E33, E35, E37
- Sunflower leaves: G02, G05, G17
- Flower pot: YR02, YR04, YR07
- Shadow under pot: C-3, C-1, 0
In keeping with the sketch, I added a couple of strips of papers from the Sweater Weather petite paper pack by Lawn Fawn to my card base which was also made from Crafter’s Companion Ultra Smooth card stock. I felt the papers from the Sweater Weather collection really complimented the coloring I did on my stamped image. I backed the white card stock rectangle with a piece of brown plaid paper from the same paper pack and adhered it to the card with some 3M foam tape.
Of course, I couldn’t just stop there. Given my love of shimmer, I added a nice coat of clear Wink of Stella glitter pen to the sunflower petals. I also touched up the black dots in the center of the sunflower with a dab from my black Signo Broad gel pen. They were looking a little washed out after being colored over, so this perked them right back up again.

So, that’s it for this quick CAS thank you card. I had lots of fun coloring this cute sunflower and making the card.
Until next time …
