As soon as I saw one of the sentiments in the new Acts of Kindness stamp set from Hero Arts, a card design immediately came to my mind. If you aren’t familiar with this stamp set, it was created as part of the Share Handmade Kindness campaign organized by Jennifer McGuire. A portion of the sales from this stamp set will be donated to the Kind Campaign which is an awesome non-profit working to end bullying among girls. Love that!
As I mentioned, a card design immediately came to my mind when I saw the stamp set, even before I actually had in my hands. I finally had the chance today to bring that design idea to fruition. Here’s my card:
I just love how this card turned out. The little girl with her outreached arms is from the In My Heart stamp set from Mama Elephant. I thought she was the perfect image for “throwing” kindness around.
I started by stamping the image on some watercolor paper and then masking her off. Next, I created a soft pink watercolor wash using the watercolor paints set from Close to My Heart. I love the vibrancy I can get with their watercolor set! When the background was dry, I removed the mask and colored the little girl using my Zig Clean Color Real Brush pens. I stamped the sentiment using black ink and then added lots of different sizes and styles of hearts from the Little Bits stamp set from WPlus9.
Of course, no card from me is complete without a little sparkle or bling. For this card, I decided to go over all the filled hearts using a red Wink of Stella glitter brush pen. I wasn’t super concerned about staying in the lines of the heart 100%. I kind of felt like going out of the lines occasionally gave the hearts a little more of a watercolor look, too.
I’m entering this card in the following challenges:
- Color Throwdown – the current challenge is to use olive, red, bright pink, and dark gray. I used olive to ground my image, red for the hearts, bright pink for the watercolor background, and dark gray for the little girl’s shoes and buttons on her dress.
- Heart 2 Heart Challenge – this is a CTMH challenge and the current theme is trending now. I used CTMH watercolors to create my watercolor wash background.
Until next time …
