Wow, I can’t believe it’s already January 17 and I’m just now making my first cards of the new year. I think I got completely burned out with all the holiday cards and just needed a break. After making a few cards today, I feel my card making mojo flowing again. Yay!
As I’ve mentioned in previous posts, I’m a member of the StampNation community which was created by Catherine Pooler. Last week marked the 5th birthday of StampNation. To celebrate the occasion, Catherine and the Dream Team put together a Creative Stenciling class for all the members. The class started last Monday, so I’m playing a bit of catch-up now trying to get my “homework” completed.
For my day one homework, I created this birthday card using the Retro Circle stencil from ARTplorations. I created a gradient effect using Peacock Feathers Distress Ink and a mini blending tool on some Neenah 80# Solar White cardstock. I added a sentiment from the Big Birthday Wishes stamp set from Simon Says Stamp using VersaFine Onyx Black ink. Since this was a large bold sentiment, I used my MISTI stamping tool which allowed me to stamp it twice to ensure I had good ink coverage.
I rounded the corners on all my layers using the 1/2″ rounder on my Corner Chomper from We R Memory Keepers. I matted the stenciled panel on some black cardstock from Simon Says Stamp then adhered it to a side-folding card base made from Audrey Blue card stock, also from Simon Says Stamp.
For the inside of the card, I added a coordinating sentiment from the same stamp set on another piece of the Neenah cardstock. I also stamped it using VersaFine Onyx Black ink. I rounded the corners in a similar fashion then adhered it to the inside of the card.
I’m entering this card in the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge. The current theme is Stencil It.
I’m also entering this card in the Seize the Birthday challenge. The theme with this challenge is always anything goes as long as it’s a birthday card, but there is an optional twist each challenge called a topping. The current topping is Clean & Simple.
Until next time …
Gorgeous card Melissa, the stencilled background is fabulous and I love the sentiment, the whole design is lovely 🙂
