When I received the current Occasions mini catalog from Stampin’ Up!® a couple of months ago, one of the stamps set I immediately fell in love with was Balloon Celebration. Nothing says it’s a celebration quite like balloons, am I right?! I finally purchased it a couple of weeks ago and decided to use it to create today’s card.
I started my card by sponging some Mint Macaron ink in the upper lefthand corner, then stamped the small cluster of stars scattered about in more of the Mint Macaron as well as Melon Mambo and Crushed Curry. I chose these colors because they coordinated with the DSP (Designer Series Paper a.k.a. patterned paper) I planned to use on this card. Finally, I figured out roughly where I wanted to balloons to go and stamped the balloon strings in Basic Black ink.
On a separate piece of scrap white cardstock, I stamped the inked balloons using the same colors I used for the stars. I used all three layers of the layering balloon stamps. For the solid background layer, I stamped off first to lessen the intensity of the background color. I didn’t stamp off first for the outline or shading stamps, so they’re the full intensity of each ink color. I also stamped just the outline stamp on a piece of the DSP to create some patterned balloons. I covered each of them with a layer of clear Wink of Stella then fussy cut all of the balloons out.
There is a coordinating balloon punch that can be purchased separately, however, if you purchase it as a bundle with the Balloon Celebration stamp set, you save 15% on both. Unfortunately, the punch was on backorder when I ordered my bundle, so I haven’t received mine yet. It looks like they’re back in stock as of yesterday, so hopefully I’ll have mine soon.
For the sentiment, I used the Congrats stamp from the Party Pants set. Party Pants is a limited edition set exclusively for Sale-A-Bration (SAB) coordinates nicely with the Balloon Celebration set. It also has a balloon that coordinates with the balloon punch. This set, along with several others, can be earned for free during SAB which ends on March 31. You can earn one SAB item with every $50 spent (before tax and shipping). So, you can get two free items with a $100 order, three with a $150 order, etc. There were some items that were limited edition through Feb. 15, but there is still some inventory in the warehouse, so those are all still available as well while quantities last.
To finish off my card, I adhered the inked balloons flat on the card using Snail adhesive. For a bit of added dimension, I adhered the two DSP balloons using Stampin’ Dimensionals. I finished it off by tying a small bow from the Mint Macaron/Basic Black baker’s twine and adhered it with a glue dot.
I’m entering this card in the following challenges:
- What Will You Stamp – the current theme is the Balloon Celebration set.
- Freshly Made Sketches – the current theme is Sketch #228.
- Can You Case It – the current theme is use three colors (plus neutrals).
Until next time …
Fabulous card x
