Clear & Sheer – Day 3

I’m back again today with another homework card for the Clear & Sheer class over at Online Card Classes. The first couple of days focused on using vellum, but day three focused on incorporating acetate into your cards for something other than shaker cards. Here’s the card I created for my day three homework.

Mel's Card Corner | Missing You Acetate Card

The design idea for this card came from a sketch being used this week over on the CAS(E) This Sketch challenge blog. I created an A2 top-folding card base from Very Vanilla cardstock from Stampin’ Up!® I used my paper trimmer to remove 1/4″ wide strips from the card base following the sketch.

I traced the shape of all the Very Vanilla piece onto a piece of DSP from the Pretty Petals paper stack (retiring). I cut out all of the shapes using my paper trimmer then trimmed each of them by 1/8″ on both the width and height. This gave me a 1/16″ border around each side of the DSP to allow the Very Vanilla cardstock to show.

I adhered a piece of 4.25 x 5.5″ piece of window sheet behind the upper flaps using some double-sided tape to recreate the full A2 size card front. Once I had that in place, I adhered the two lower pieces lining them up with the corners of the window sheet. I then adhered all the DSP pieces using tape runner.

To hide the double-sided tape I used to adhere the acetate, I repeated the DSP decoration on the inside of the card. To ensure the pieces would be in the correct orientation on the inside of the card, I flipped the DSP over to the opposite side when I traced the shapes.

Since the card front is the star of the show on this card, I kept the sentiment very simple. I stamped the “missing you” sentiment from the Happy Home stamp set (retiring) on some Very Vanilla cardstock using Mint Macaron ink. I punched it out using the Word Window punch (retiring) and adhered it to the card using Dimensionals. For a little bling, I added two tiny rhinestones on each side of the sentiment.
