Most of the birthday cards I make are very bright and vibrant with things like flowers, balloons, etc. They would definitely be considered more “feminine” by most people. When I need a birthday card for a guy, it can certainly be more challenging for me. Thankfully, the Tip Top Taupe line of products from the 2015-2017 In Colors from Stampin’ Up!® makes creating masculine cards so much easier because it’s such an awesome neutral!
Amazingly enough, my starting point for this card was finding this great striped DSP from the Cherry on Top paper stack (retiring). I say that’s amazing because the stack is mostly full of very bright primary-type colors one would typically associate with birthdays. Finding this beautiful neutral stripe just immediately said masculine card to me.
I added the striped piece to an A2 top-folding card base made from Tip Top Taupe cardstock. To cover the edge of the striped paper, I added the some Tip Top Taupe polka dot washi (retiring hostess reward). I stamped the birthday sentiment from the Happy Birthday, Everyone stamp set (retiring hostess reward) using Archival Basic Black ink. I immediately added some clear embossing powder over it and heat set it to give it a nice shiny look.
To finish off the card, I added some black Candy Dots from the Neutrals collection (retiring). This helped tie the black sentiment together with the rest of the card. I also added a layer of Whisper White cardstock on the inside of the card for a signature panel.
I’m entering this card in the following challenges:
- Global Design Challenge – the current theme is CASE the designer. The designer for this CASE was Artisan Design Team member, Krista Frattin. I was inspired by the striped background and sentiment focal point on her card.
- CAS on Sunday – the current theme is a tic tac toe challenge. I’m using Patterned Paper – Stamp – Something Shiny.
- Seize the Birthday – the current theme is anything goes.
Until next time …
