Creativity from Tragedy

Following the Paris attacks last fall, I turned to my creative side as an outlet for my emotions over such a tragic event. I found myself in the same position yesterday. Just as I created a card to pay tribute to the Paris victims, I did the same this time to mourn the victims of the mass shooting that took place this weekend in Orlando. Instead of watching hour after hour of coverage, I turned off the news and unplugged from social media and went to my craft table instead. My thoughts go out to the friends and families of the victims.

Since the horrific attack on Saturday night took place at a gay bar, I decided to create an ink blended rainbow background using Distress Inks for my tribute card. I added some water splatters to the background to represent the tears I shed thinking of the many lives lost in such a senseless act of violence.

I heat embossed the thinking of you sentiment in copper on a piece of vellum. To finish the card, I adhered everything together on a black card base.

Until next time … give your loved ones an extra hug.

This is perfect Melissa! And it is exactly what I did too- turned off the news coverage because it was breaking my heart and got creative. I was lucky to find a FB group that was collecting cards for the families of the victims and sent them a bunch of cards. The drive is closed now but your card and the message reached many I am sure.
