I know I’m super late to the washi tape party when it comes to cardmaking. I have quite a few rolls of washi which I use in my planner, but I’ve never really utilized them in my cardmaking. I’m really going to try and change that because I absolutely love how this birthday card turned out!
I started by laying down my strips of washi on a white cardstock layer cut to 4 x 5.25″. I stamped a sentiment from the Suite Sayings stamp set from Stampin’ Up!® in black ink on a piece of scrap white cardstock. I cut it out using the 2.25″ wide oval from the Layering Ovals Framelits. I left a bit of room beneath the sentiment when I cut it out to have room to add embellishments to the finished card. I also cut out a mat from Melon Mambo cardstock using the 2-3/8″ wide scalloped oval from the same die set. Since both ovals were fairly small, I was able to cut both pieces in one pass on my Big Shot. I adhered the sentiment oval to the scalloped mat using tape runner.
I wrapped some Melon Mambo thick baker’s twine around the washi layer taping the ends down on the back side. I added the matted sentiment oval over the twine using Dimesionals then adhered the completed washi layer to an A2 top-folding Melon Mambo card base. To finish the card, I added three enamel dots in coordinating colors below the sentiment.
The washi tape and enamel dots I used on the card have been retired, unfortunately. However, you could easily substitute any coordinating washi tape, enamel dot, and cardstock combination to recreate this quick clean and simple (CAS) card.
I’m entering this card in the following challenges:
- Little Red Wagon – the current theme is happy birthday.
- Seize the Birthday – the current challenge is anything goes birthday cards.
Until next time …
