Over the weekend, I had the chance to take the “Daisy Delight” class from Tracy Weinzapfel who is an absolutely amazing artist! She was teaching a couple of different classes at Stamp Fever, my local stamp store. If you aren’t familiar with her already and enjoy mixed media, definitely be sure to check out her Mixed Media Monday series!
I’ve never done much painting, so I was kind of nervous going into the class, but I had a GREAT time! Tracy walked us through everything so beautifully, the intimidation I was feeling immediately disappeared. She provided excellent written instructions, but we didn’t really refer to them during the class because her verbal instructions were very easy to follow and we all went to town creating our pieces.
The piece we created was painted on a 12×12″ wood panel. The daisy design we used was created by another amazing artist, Maureen Baker. Students had the option of painting on either side of the panel. Painting on the inside resulted in more of a shadow box look. I opted to paint on the outside. In only three hours, I went from a raw wood panel to my finished piece and had a blast in the process!
All of the products we used during the class were from DecoArt. Tracy is a DecoArts artist and brought lots of samples of her other work, including some of her art journals. They were all absolutely gorgeous!
If you ever have the opportunity to take a class from Tracy, I highly recommend it! She’s a great teacher and an absolute hoot!
The next classes I’m eyeing on taking are from another amazing mixed media artist, May Flaum. She’ll be teaching three classes at Stamp Fever the first weekend of November. If you’re going to be in the southern California area and are interested in taking her classes, contact the shop to sign up.
Until next time …
