For today’s card, I thought I would create a one layer card. I did add some enamel dots and rhinestones as embellishments, but I kept them at a minimum to try and stay true to the whole one layer card philosophy.
I started by creating an A2 top-folding card base from some nice heavy watercolor cardstock by Crafter’s Companion. I went over the entire card front using my Embossing Buddy from Stampin’ Up!® since I was planning to do a LOT of embossing. Using VersaMark ink, I stamped one of the sentiments from the Flurry of Wishes stamp set from Stampin’ Up in the lower right corner, then filled the rest of the card with a variety of snowflakes from the Cute Snowflakes stamp set from Simon Says Stamp. Once I had everything stamped, I covered everything with white embossing powder then heat set it.
Side Note: If you missed out on the Flurry of Wishes bundle before it retired, great news! It will be back at a GREAT price during a 24-hour flash sale on November 28 as part of Stampin’ Up’s Online Extravaganza. If you’ve been wanting it, this is a great time to grab it up since the bundle option is no longer available. Ok, now back to my card.
Next, I added some ink blending with Distress Inks over the entire card front. I started at the bottom with the lightest color, Tumbled Glass. After I got about a third of the way up the card, I switched to the medium shade, Salty Ocean. Lastly, for the top third of the card, I added some Blueprint Sketch. To give the card a bit more depth, I lightly went around the edges of the top half of the card using some Black Soot.
After I had all the ink blending finished, I used a dry paper towel to buff over all the embossing. This removed any excess ink left behind during the ink blending process. To finish off the card, I added some white enamel dots in the centers of the larger snowflakes and some rhinestones in the centers of the smaller snowflakes.
I’m entering this card in the following challenges:
- CAS Colours & Sketches – the current theme is monochromatic shades of blue.
- One Layer Simplicity – the current theme is peace. I’ve always found falling snow to be extremely peaceful.
Until next time …
