I’m back today with a card I created for Paper & Ink Sketches. The latest sketch also worked really well with the latest CASE the Designer challenge(Brian King this time) over on the Global Design Project challenge blog, so I combined both as the inspiration for my card.
I started by trimming a piece of watercolor paper to 3-1/4 x 4-1/2″. I stamped the snowman image from the Christmas Magic stamp set from Stampin’ Up!® using Archival Basic Black ink. Next, I stamped the Merry Christmas sentiment from the Hang Your Stocking stamp set which is current on sale 25% off during the month of November 2016.
Once I finished my stamping, it was time to add a little color. I used a blender pen and several Stampin’ Up inks to color the snowman. After I completed all the coloring, I finished him off by adding a general coat of clear Wink of Stella. Here’s a list of the ink colors I used:
- Soft Sky – snowman, snowy ground
- Real Red – gloves, stripes on the scarf, holly berries
- Old Olive – stripes on the scarf, holly leaves
- Pumpkin Pie – nose
- Soft Suede – hat
I matted the watercolor panel using a piece of Real Red cardstock cut to 3-3/8 x 4-5/8″ with some Tear & Tape adhesive. This left me a very narrow 1/16″ mat border on all sides which was just the right amount of color. I also used Real Red cardstock for my A2 top-folding card base. I added a layer of designer series paper from the Candy Cane Lane collection which was cut to 4-1/8 x 5-3/8″. (This is actually the reverse side of the paper I used on the notecard I posted Friday.) I adhered it to the card base using tape runner then added the watercolor panel layer with Dimensionals to pop it up just a bit. To finish the card, I added a plain panel of Whisper White on the inside of the card.
The biweekly Paper & Ink Sketches series was put together by my upline, Angie, from Chic ‘n Scratch. The series started in July 2016 and will run through June 2017 providing a total of 24 card sketches.
If you would like a copy of this Paper & Ink Sketch, I have it available for download. Here are the links:
- Click here to download Paper & Ink Sketch #9 PDF
- Click here to download Paper & Ink Sketch #9 PDF with measurements.
The first is just the sketch design which can be used for general inspiration. The second includes all the measurements if you would rather than something more concrete. I used the first one, so my measurements don’t exactly match the ones provided in the second file. If you would like to see all the past sketches, you can find them here on Angie’s blog.
Until next time …
