I came to the realization this weekend, other than when I’ve taken a class here or there, I haven’t done much coloring in quite a while. After chatting with a friend about Copic markers yesterday, I decided I needed to dust them off and do some coloring again. I ended up with this adorable Clean & Simple Christmas card.
I bought this Santa’s Elves stamp set by Birdie Brown for My Favorite Things right at the end of the holiday card making season last year and never actually used them. I pulled out my Intense Black ink pad from Simon Says Stamp and stamped out a few images from the stamp set for my coloring.
I can tell I’m definitely out of practice with my Copic coloring because I didn’t even think to write down what colors I used. I was just enjoying being in the moment and coloring again. I didn’t realize just HOW much I’ve missed it! Knowing what some of my favorite color combinations are, I’m guessing these are likely what I used:
Elf:
- Skin: E51, E11, BV000
- Hair: E08
- Red on Hat, Gloves, and Pants: R17, R37, R89
- Green on Shirt and Pants: Y03, Y05, Y07
- Fur Trim: C3, C1, C00
- Shoes: E33, E35, E37, E59
- Jingle Bell: Y00, Y11, Y15, YR23
- Gift: BG11, BG13, BG15
Tree:
- Trunk: E33, E35, E37
- Main Tree: YG11, YG17, G28
- Star: Y11, Y17, YR14
After I had my images colored, I cut them out. I cut out the tree by hand with no border since I was planning to adhere it directly to my card base. I used the PixScan mat with my Silhouette Cameo to cut out the elf adding a small offset border since I wanted to pop him up. I used a Memento Tuxedo Black marker to go over all the edges of the tree to give it a finished look with no white edges showing.
I adhered the tree to the card using some tape runner then popped the little elf up with some Dimensionals. I added a bit of ground and shadows beneath my stamped images using some of the warm gray Copic markers (W1, W00, 0). I then stamped my sentiment below my images using the same Intense Black ink I used to stamp my images. To finish off the card, I added some clear Wink of Stella to the star, gift, and jingle bell.
I’m entering this card in the following challenges:
- Stamp, Ink, Paper – the current theme is Clean & Simple Christmas.
- The Paper Players – the current theme is Clean & Simple Christmas.
One Last Thing …
In closing, I also wanted to thank the DT over at Sunday Stamps for selecting my Thankful for You Notecards design as one of their Top Cups for their last challenge (#139). I’ve updated my Challenge Wins/Features page to reflect this latest honor. Thanks again, Sunday Stamps DT!
Until next time …
