Hello Daisy

I made my first purchase from Unity Stamp Co. about three months ago. Since then, I’ve absolutely fallen in love with them and how beautifully their deeply etched red rubber images stamp. They have some amazing artists who design for them and offer stamps in a variety of price points. Even better? They have great sales on a regular basis! For today’s card, I’m using the cute Hello Daisy image created by Joslyn Nielson. I picked it up recently when they were offering select stamps from their {itty bitty} collection on sale for only $3.

Mel's Card Corner | Hello Daisy

I started by cutting a piece of Bristol Smooth card stock from Strathmore to 3.75 x 5.5″. I stamped the image in the lower right-hand corner using Intense Black ink from Simon Says Stamp then colored it using Zig Clean Color Real Brush markers. Here are the colors I used:

  • Petals: Lemon Yellow and Yellow
  • Center: Light Brown and Brown
  • Heart: Carmine Red and Wine Red
  • Leaf and Ground: Pale Green and Light Green
  • Sky: Light Blue

For the flower, I simply blended the markers with themselves. They blend beautifully on the Bristol paper! Since I wanted to fade the sky and ground out to white, I blended them out with a very slightly damp water brush. You don’t want to use very much water because the Bristol paper will start to pill pretty quickly if it gets too wet. If it does start to pill, you can gently go over the pilled area with a Tombow sand eraser to remove the pilled paper bits.

After I finished the coloring, I adhered the Bristol panel to a piece of Basic Black card stock from Stampin’ Up cut to 4 x 5.5″. I then adhered the combined layers to an A2 top-folding card base made from Daffodil Delight card stock, also from Stampin’ Up.

To give a bit of interest and texture to all the white space on the card, I added a smattering of Sea Breeze Nuvo Jewel Drops from Tonic Studios. I love how they look like water droplets on the card. They remind me of a dewy spring morning. To finish the card, I went over all of the flower with a clear overly Sparkle pen from Spectrum Noir.

I’m entering this card in the following challenge:

Until next time …
