Hey Chick!

For my card today, I used a stamp set that really pushed my comfortable zone. Having grown up on a farm, I’m not really a fan of chickens. I tried to overcome my fear of them during middle school by raising 100 chicks as a project through my local 4-H club, but yeah, I didn’t get over it. So, for me to actually use a chicken stamp is kind of big deal. LOL

I started by creating an A2 top-folding card base from a piece of Tip Top Taupe card stock from Stampin’ Up!® I then used the Hardwood background stamp and Tip Top Taupe ink pad to create a tone-on-tone background to be the barn wall for my card. I decided to add a couple of patterns from the Succulent Garden DSP pack to give the card a bit of color. Gingham prints always remind me of the country, so I thought it would work well for this card. The gingham piece is cut to 2.75 x 4.25″ and the floral piece is cut to 1.5 x 4.25″.

I stamped the chicken and sentiment using Basic Gray archival ink on a piece of Shimmery White card stock cut to 1.5 x 3.25″. I also stamped the chicken on a sticky note and fussy cut it out to use as a mask. I used the Banner Triple Punch to create a fishtail banner end on the right side of the shimmering card stock. I used the sticky note mask to cover the chicken and then sponged on some Soft Sky ink. I removed the mask then watercolored the chicken using Smoky Slate and Pumpkin Pie inks and an Aqua Painter.

To assemble the card, I adhered the DSP pieces to the card base using Snail adhesive. I then adhered the chicken banner to the card using Stampin’ Dimensionals. I also added a 1/2 x  4.25″ strip of the gingham paper on the inside lower edge of the card. I forgot to take a photo of the inside, but you can catch a glimpse of the DSP on the inside of the card in the first photo of this post. That finished the card for today and this is probably the one and only time you’ll see a chicken card on my blog. LOL

Stampin’ Up Retirement List

Before I got, I just wanted to mention again the current Annual and Occasions catalogs from Stampin’ Up will be retiring on May 31, 2017. As Demonstrators, we found out yesterday the list of items being retired which won’t carry over to the new Annual catalog will be released on April 10.

We already know for sure the 2015-2017 In Colors will be retiring. These colors include our Mint Macaron (insert a major sad face here), Tip Top Taupe (which I used for the card base on today’s card), Cucumber Crush, Watermelon Wonder, and Delightful Dijon. Based on past experience, products in the retiring In Colors generally sell out VERY quickly when the retiring list goes live because all the items on the list immediately go into a “while supplies last” status. If you want any of these items, NOW is the time to order! As an added bonus, if you order before March 31, you will also earn FREE Sale-a-Bration items for every $50 you spend (before tax and shipping).

Don’t forget, this doesn’t just mean card stock and inks! Any products like designer series paper, project/card kits, embellishments, Project Life packs, etc. that include any of these colors will likely retire as well. To help you decide if there are any items you want to order, here’s a list of links to all the category page of products by each color.

As always, if you have any questions, please ask! You can reach me anytime via the Contact link at the top of my page.

Until next time …
