My Kind of Peeps

I hope everyone had a lovely Easter and/or Passover. I made this quick Easter card over the weekend to give to one of my neighbors. I signed the card as “The Easter Bunny” then snuck over late Saturday night and put it at her door along with a little treat as a surprise for her on Sunday morning. While I used this as an Easter card, you could certainly use it anytime of year since the word Easter doesn’t actually appear on it anywhere.

The stamps I used for this card are from the My Kind of Peeps stamp set by Simon Says Stamp. It was part of their March 2016 card kit and is no longer available, unfortunately. I started by stamping the row of solid peeps on a white card base using a variety of the new ink colors from Catherine Pooler Designs which will be launching in her store on Thursday. From left to right, I used It’s a Girl, Pixie Dust, Bellini, Mint to Be, and It’s a Boy. Next, I came back and stamped the outline and facial features on top of each of the peeps in Smoky Slate ink from Stampin’ Up. To complete the stamping, I added the sentiment using the darker Basic Gray Archival ink from Stampin’ Up to give it a bit more punch vs. the lighter Smoky Slate.

I filled in the “hugs” on the sentiment using Catherine’s Tiara ink and a blender pen. The archival ink was perfect for this since it’s waterproof and wouldn’t move or smudge from the solution in the blender pen. I started at the bottom of the letter and worked my way up which gave the letters a bit of an ombre look as the ink was depleted on the blender pen.

Since this is a fairly simple card, I wanted to keep the embellishments to a minimum as well. I went over the Hugs with a clear Sparkle pen from Spectrum Noir then added a coat of Glossy Accents for a bit of shine and dimension. I also went over the eyes and noses of the peeps using a black Glaze pen from Sakura to also give them a bit of shine and dimension. Finally, I used a couple of my light cool gray Copic markers to add a bit of ground and shadows beneath my peeps and that completed the card.

I mentioned earlier in this post about the new inks from Catherine Pooler Designs. She will be launching some new stamps and dies in her store on Thursday as well. Definitely be sure to check back over the next couple of days as I’ll be sharing projects I’ve made using the new products. Tomorrow’s post will just be a general share, but Thursday’s post will be part of a blog hop from the entire design team. There will be some prizes up for grabs, too. Just sayin’ …

This was a very quick clean and simple one-layer card to make. The best part? My neighbor loved it! She said it brought a huge smile to her face when she opened the envelope and that’s what making handmade cards is all about!

Until next time …
