Today is Independence Day for those of us here in the United States. I just wanted to take a minute to wish everyone here a very happy 4th! If you plan to use any personal fireworks tonight, please be safe and don’t let the kiddos get too close to them!
For today’s card, I decided to stick with a patriotic theme and use good ol’ red, white, and blue in honor of the holiday. I started by doing some dry embossing using a couple of embossing folders from Stampin’ Up!® I used the new Pinewood Planks to emboss a piece of Whisper White cardstock and I used the celebrate folder from the Celebrations Duo set to deboss a piece of Night of Navy cardstock.
To help the debossed word show up easier, I dragged a Whisper White Craft (pigment) ink pad lightly over the cardstock. I love how it gave a bit of a weathered look to the navy cardstock, so I decided to play that up a bit more and used my Paper Snips to distress the edges of the navy layer a bit.
Now is the point where I’ll also reveal a little “Christmas in July” secret about this card. The striped patterned paper I used for the bottom panel is actually from a Christmas paper collection. It’s from the new Be Merry DSP pack from the new annual catalog which launched on June 1. I thought it worked beautifully for this card. I love when I can find ways to incorporate my Christmas papers into cards for other occasions throughout the rest of the year!
To assemble the card, I created a top-folding card base using Night of Navy cardstock. I adhered the DSP panel to the bottom half of the Whisper White layer using Snail adhesive then adhered the Celebrate debossed piece in the middle using Stampin’ Dimensionals. Once I had the focal panel assembled, I matted it on a piece of Cherry Cobbler cardstock using Snail, then adhered that to the card base. Finally, I added a few Night of Navy and Cherry Cobbler star enamel shapes to complete my card.
If you would like to purchase any of the products I used for this card, you can find them all in my online store. I have links to everything I used in the product list below my signature.
I’m entering this card in the following challenges:
- AAA Cards – the current theme is words take center stage.
- Less is More – the current theme is the colors of your country’s flag.
- Just Add Ink – the current theme is “just add A.” My interpretation is Americana.
Until next time …
