Making Use of Leftover Die Cuts

As promised, I’m back today showing how I used the remnant die cut from the card I posted on Thursday to create a second card. The floral hello was just too beautiful to let go to waste! If you want to see how I created it, be sure to check out Thursday’s post if you haven’t already.

I decided I wanted the hello to be dimensional, so I started by cutting four more of the hellos from some white card stock. I then adhered them all together using some Multi Medium Matte and set it aside to dry while I worked on the rest of the card.

Since I had a beautiful floral work, I thought it would be fun to create a background reminiscent of sky and grass. I used a large sticky note and masked off a line a couple of inches up from the bottom of the background layer. Using Lime Rickey ink from Catherine Pooler Designs and a mini ink blending tool, I sponged on a nice solid green lower section. I then switched the sticky note mask the other direction and did the same for the sky section using It’s a Boy ink from Catherine.

To give the word die a place to “sit” and to cover the blending line between the inks, I cut a narrow strip of Smoke card stock from Catherine. I stamped the word friend from the Simply the Best stamp set near the right edge and heat embossed it using white embossing powder. This stamp set was part of the Naturally Inspired Stamp of Approval collection released in June. The products from that collection will be available for individual purchase in the future in Catherine’s store.

I adhered the friend strip to the ink blended layer using liquid glue. I decided I wanted to mat the layer using more of the Smoke card stock. I rounded all four corners on both layers then adhered them together then adhered the combined layers to a white top-folding card base. I used some more of the Multi Medium Matte to adhered the hello word die to the card right along the top of the friend strip. For a bit of bling, I added some crystal sequins and that completed the card.

Until next time …
