Calling All Sistahs – October 2017

It’s October, so that means it’s breast cancer awareness month. Even though there are breast cancer reminders everywhere this month, this cause is something we take very seriously month in and month out as part of the CAS-ual Fridays Stamps Encouragement Squad. In addition to the Calling All Sistahs monthly encouragement card challenge, we take time on the 17th of each month to remind everyone to perform their monthly breast self-exam. This is also a great time to schedule your mammogram if it’s time for that check as well.

I decided to keep my card very simple this month and just let the message shine. I started by stamping the Hope Ribbon on a piece of watercolor paper using VersaMark ink then heat embossed it using WOW! Silver Pearl embossing powder. It has such a beautiful sheen!

I used Powder Pink ink from Stampin’ Up to add a watercolor background. I added several layers to intensify the color. I used my heat tool to dry the paper between each layer. Once I had the color I wanted, I used the coordinating Ruffled Ribbon Fri-Die to cut out the ribbon.

The sentiment is from the same Hope Ribbon stamp set. I stamped the never give up sentiment using Black Jack ink from Catherine Pooler Designs on a white card stock layer, also from Catherine Pooler. I stamped the hope sentiment using the same Powder Pink ink I used for the watercoloring.

I created a top-folding card base from white card stock. I also created two matting layers, one from Powder Pink card stock from Stampin’ Up and the other from Mirrors card stock from Catherine Pooler. I used tape runner to adhere all the layers together then to adhere them to the card base. I added the die cut ribbon using foam squares. For a finishing touch, I filled in the heart at the center of the ribbon using a Candied Apple Distress Marker then covered it with a layer of Glossy Accents.

Until next time …
