Winterhaven SOA Blog Hop – Day Three

Welcome to the final day of our big three day blog hop celebrating the new Winterhaven Stamp of Approval release launching tomorrow from Catherine Pooler Designs. You should have arrived here from Julie’s blog, but if not, don’t worry. I’ll have links to all the stops for today’s blog hop at the end of my post.

The Winterhaven collection will be available to wait list subscribers at 9am ET tomorrow, October 10. If there is any inventory remaining, it will be made available for general purchase beginning at 6pm ET tomorrow. As always, this collection will only be available while supplies last, so if you aren’t already signed up for the wait list, I would definitely recommend signing up now if you want a chance to get this collection.

Mel's Card Corner | Winterhaven SOA Blog Hop Day 3

For my first card today, I used a few different products from the collection. I used the hillside, trees, and houses from the Winterhaven Dies to create the village scene. The flying Santa sleigh is from the Here We Come A-Caroling stamp set. I used the add-on coordinating die set to cut it out. Finally, the sentiment is from the Good Stuff stamp set.

To create the night sky behind my village, I used a combination of Catherine’s ink. I started by blending the entire black ground with Something Blue. I then added some Flirty Fuchsia along the top to deepen the color a bit. I stamped the sentiment and sleigh using Catherine’s Black Jack ink. To complete the scene, I added some snowflakes to the background using a white gel pen.

For my second card, I used the Joy Wreath dies. I cut the wreath out from a white panel. To give it some color, I used a direct to paper inking technique using Catherine’s Garden Party ink. I cut the joy sentiment from the center remnant of the wreath. I used the same direct to paper inking technique using Rockin’ Red ink to give it some color. When the red ink was dry, I covered the entire word with VersaMark ink then heat embossed it with clear embossing powder to give it some dimension and shine.

I adhered some acetate behind the opening in the white panel then inlaid the wreath back into it. I used some small stars and snowflake sequins inside the shaker portion of my card. I sponged some It’s a Boy ink onto the background to give the card a bit more color and to help the sequins show up a bit more. Once I had everything assembled, I adhered the joy sentiment to the center of the acetate window using some Multi Medium Matte. For a bit of final embellishment, I added a few dots of cranberry Stickles.

As promised at the beginning of this post, here’s a list of all the stops on our blog hop today:

I did not think to use the joy wreath as a shaker shape! Absolutely amazing cards, the colours and combinations of products is great. Thanks for the inspiration, these goodies are getting more and more exciting!

  18. Patt H. says:

I love shaker cards & yours is awesome! The design for your first card is wonderful. I love the colors & that you used several different sets to make it.

  19. Susan Nixon says:

I like both cards, but the Joy one has me a little stumped. I will have to play with cutting it from the panel. Maybe then I will understand what you did. I do love it! Thanks for the inspiration.

    • Melissa says:

The scrap bit of cardstock from the center of the wreath is *just* big enough you can cut the joy word die from it. In fact, if you don’t cut the wreath and joy dies apart, you can cut it all in one pass through your die cutting machine. 🙂

  20. Elaine Johnson says:

Great shaker card. I also love the Santa flying by. Haven’t seen enough of this set during the blog hops. I can’t wait to get mine.

  21. Barbara Brennan says:

LOVE the JOY wreath card turned into a shaker card. SO pretty! Something blue really is a great night sky color on your Village card. So vintage feel with Santa and his sleigh overhead.

  22. Cynthia Pryor says:

I think both of your cards are very pretty and original. I like the shaker part of the Joy card as well. Thanks for the Christmas inspiration!

  23. Cati Harris says:
