I have several friends who are single moms either through divorce or they adopted a child as a single parent. I thought it would be fun to use the part of the little snow family from the Warmer with You stamp set by Gina K. Designs to create a card for single mom families. You could easily do this for single dad families as well by simply switching out the appropriate snow parent. This set was a Stamptember exclusive at Simon Says Stamp, so it’s no longer available. Since it sold out fairly quickly, I’m sure a lot of you probably have it your stash. 🙂
I started by creating the background for my card. I did some ink blending on Bristol card stock using Distress Oxide inks by Tim Holtz. The colors I used were (from bottom to top) Worn Lipstick, Picked Raspberry, and Wilted Violet.
While I was waiting for the Oxide inks to dry, I turned my focus to the little snow family. I stamped the snow mom and two snow kids from the stamp set on 80# Neenah Solar White card stock using Lawn Fawn Jet Black ink then colored them using Copic markers. Here’s a list of the Copic colors I used:
- Snow bodies: B01, B00, B0000, 0
- Fur trim: C3, C1, C00
- Carrot noses: VR
- Mom’s accessories: RV02, RV04, RV09
- Kid #1’s accessories: BG11, BG13, BG15
- Kid #2’s accessories: V20, V22, V25
Since I sadly missed out on getting the coordinating dies for this stamp set. So, I fussy cut all of them out then went around the edges with a black marker to cover the white cut edges.
By the time I finished all of that, the background panel was dry, but just to be safe, I hit it with my heat tool for a few seconds to be sure. Using my MISTI, I stamped the tree background image from the same stamp set using Soft Suede ink from Stampin’ Up!® then over-stamped that using VersaMark ink. I added some clear sparkle embossing powder then heat set it. It gives the trees at great iridescent sheen! When you look straight on at the card, the trees still look like regular brown birch trees, but when you hold it at an angle to the light, they sparkle like crazy! The powder I used has been discontinued, but I’ll link to a similar product below.
To create my scene, I used the Stitched Hillside Backdrop: Portrait die from Lawn Fawn. I cut it one from a piece of shimmer white card stock for my snowy hills. I then lined it up over my stamped/embossed tree background and cut it a second time. I stamped one of the sentiments from the stamp set on the shimmer white panel, once again using the Lawn Fawn Jet Black ink.
I adhered the shimmer white panel to a top-folding card base made from Premium White Card Stock by Catherine Pooler Designs. I used liquid glue for this and made sure to keep the glue far enough down from the stitched hillside edges for me to be able to tuck in the snow people. Next, I inlaid the tree background in the opening of the shimmer white frame adhering it with liquid glue as well. Using liquid glue for these two steps gave me a big of wiggle room to ensure I had everything lined up correctly.
The final step was adding the snow people. I positioned them a few different ways without applying adhesive until I decided exactly how I wanted them. Once I did, I added a bit of liquid glue on the back of each and tucked them into place. Just because you can never have enough shimmer (am I right?!), I went over the caps, scarves, and mittens of each of the snow people using a clear Sparkle pen from Spectrum Noir and that completed my card.
Thanks for stopping by today! I hope you’ve enjoyed my card. If so, please leave me a comment below. For my readers in the United States or US expats living aboard, I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday tomorrow!
