A Reason to Smile

Sometimes our cards just don’t go as planned. This was originally going to be a shaker card, but I realized after I had all the foam tape in place and had already removed the backings that I forgot to adhere the acetate in the aperture I created. Oops! So, I just skipped the shaker idea and assembled anyway. It wasn’t what I planned, but I still really like how it turned out so that definitely gave me a reason to smile. 🙂

Mel's Card Corner | Reason to Smile

I started by stamping a panel using the Plaid Background stamp from Catherine Pooler Designs. (It just came back in stock, so if you missed out on it when it launched recently, you can grab it now!) I stamped it using the new Daydream ink which is absolutely GORGEOUS. It’s definitely one of my favorite colors from the Paradise Found bundle of the new Spa Collection inks from Catherine.

Once I had the background stamped, I created the aperture for the panel. I did that using the Outside In Stitched Scalloped Circle Stackables dies from Lawn Fawn. I love how these dies cut a stitched line on both sides of the scalloped circle so you can use it either way. I’ll definitely be using the scalloped circle left over from this project on another project in the future!

Mel's Card Corner | Reason to Smile

I created a top-folding card base using Catherine’s Premium White Card Stock. I lined up the plaid panel to figure out exactly where to stamp my sentiment which is from the Choose Happy stamp set from Simon Says Stamp. I stamped it using Jet Black ink from Lawn Fawn. I also stamped a little flourish from the same stamp set under the sentiment. I colored in the little heart using an R24 Copic marker than added some clear Sparkle pen over it.

To bring a bit of detail to the bottom of the card, I wrapped some white twine around the plaid panel and tied it off in a little bow. (NOTE: This is where I SHOULD have adhered acetate to the back of the aperture on the panel to create a shaker. Oops!) I added foam tape to the back of the plaid panel then adhered it to the card base and that completed the card.

I’m entering this card in the following challenge:
