CAS Encouragement Challenge – December 2017

Mel's Card Corner | December 2017 Encouragement Challenge

It’s time for another encouragement card challenge over at the Calling All Sistahs blog. As I mentioned yesterday, this will be my final month as part of the Encouragement Squad Design Team for CAS-ual Fridays Stamps. It’s very bittersweet, but I can promise you’ll still see me around participating from time to time. 🙂

Mel's Card Corner | December 2017 Encouragement Challenge

While my card certainly isn’t a “typical” encouragement card, I think anyone who receives a handmade card at the holidays gets encouragement from it. Given the colors for this month’s challenge, I holiday card just seemed to fit the bill perfectly.

I started by stamping the sentiment tree from the Sugar Plum Fairy stamp set on a piece of white card stock using VersaMark ink. I added some white embossing powder then heat set it using my heat tool. Once the embossing had cooled, I used a mini ink blending tool  and covered the panel using Lime Rickey and Grass Skirt inks from Catherine Pooler Designs.

For the card base, I used a piece of Real Red card stock from Stampin’ Up!® For a bit of added interest, I stamped some of the small snowflakes in the stamp set all around the outer edge of the card front using Real Red ink for a tone-on-tone look. It gave just the right amount of texture to the background without detracting from the focal panel.

I matted the focal panel on a piece of black card stock then adhered it to the card base. For a bit of bling, I colored the star with a gold gel pen and added a few drops of Nuvo Crystal Glaze around the tree and that completed the card.

Be sure to head over to the Calling All Sistahs blog to see the cards created by the rest of the Encouragement Squad design team. We would love to have you play along with us this month, too! One winner will be selected to receive a $25 gift certificate to the CAS-ual Fridays Stamps online store. If the selected winner uses CFS products on their design, Michele will double the prize to a $50 gift certificate!

Until next time …

I completely agree with you about receiving a handmade Christmas card. It’s a special gift that lifts the spirits. Thank you for being a part of our inaugural Encouragement Squad team! I’ll miss having your lovely creations every month, but hope you’ll pop in on occasion and take part of the challenge.
