Metallic Christmas Lights

For today’s card, I used the Christmas Lights Bold Prints background stamp from Hero Arts. I’ve seen so many beautiful cards made with this background stamp this year, so I was really happy when I was able to finally get my hands on this gorgeous stamp!

I knew I wanted to use my Spectrum Noir Metallic Colored Pencils on dark card stock for the card. Since colored pencils work best on paper with a bit of “tooth,” I bought some black Bristol paper and it worked really well!

I stamped the image on the black Bristol using VersaMark ink. I covered everything with Liquid Platinum embossing powder from Ranger then melted it using my heat tool. While I was embossing, I took a 1/2″ strip of the black Bristol paper and stamped one of the sentiments from the Christmas in the Making stamp set from Stampin’ Up!® using VersaMark then also heat set it using the Liquid Platinum embossing powder. I thought this sentiment went so well with all the festive lights.

I used five different pencils from the metallic pencil set for my card. I used gold, silver, violet, blue, and green. These pencils are a wax-based pencil with a beautiful metallic shimmer to them. They truly shine when used on dark card stock like this black Bristol!

Once I had all the coloring done, I adhered the panel to a top-folding card base make from white card stock. Since the background had so much going on, I decided to keep the sentiment really simple with no embellishments. I adhered the sentiment strip to the front of the card 1.5″ up from the bottom and that completed the card.

Until next time …
