Zen Garden Blog Hop – Day 4

Mel's Card Corner | Zen Garden Blog Hop - Day 2

Today is the final day of the big four day Creative Team blog hop featuring new products from the Zen Garden release from Catherine Pooler Designs. These new products are now available in Catherine’s online store as well as at select retailer partners. While I’m not an “official” part of the hop today, I couldn’t resist sharing another card I made using products from this release.

Mel's Card Corner | Zen Garden Blog Hop - Day 4

For today’s card, I used the new Stained Glass Coverplate to create a tarnished foil technique pie. Instead of using it to die cut, I embossed with it instead. To emboss with a die, simply ass a silicone mat into the sandwich beneath the paper and use your die cutting machine as you would for normal embossing.

I used some champagne foil card stock for the embossing. I then VERY lightly swiped some Midnight ink across the top to distress the foil a bit. If you feel like you have too much of the black ink, simply wipe away any excess with a paper towel. Once you have the look you want, go over the piece with a heat tool to ensure the ink is dry before proceeding with the next step.

Randomly swipe some small bits VersaMark over the embossed panel. Smudge the edges of the VersaMark with your finger to eliminate any hard lines. Add some gold embossing powder and then heat set it. Repeat this same process a second time, but use silver embossing powder in place of the gold. Finally, go over the piece again VERY lightly with the Midnight ink for one final bit of distressing.

Since the technique piece was the star of the show on this card, I decided to just add a simple die cut sentiment to finish the card. I used some white card stock and blended on some Polished ink to create a gradient/ombre effect then die cut it using the new Smile word die. I cut the Smile three more times from plain white card stock then glued all the layers together ending with the ink blended layer on top then adhered it to the card. For a fit of final shimmer, I went over the Smile die cut using a Clear Overlay Sparkle pen from Crafter’s Companion.

As always with our blog hops, you’ll want to be sure and visit all the stops and leave a comment on each. Catherine’s is generously giving TWO lucky winners a set of all eight of the new Zen Garden Inks each blog hop day. Winners will be announced on Catherine’s blog on Monday, February 19. If any of the winners have already purchased the new inks, they will receive a $45 gift certificate instead to use on a future purchase from Catherine’s store.

Until next time …
