As someone who loves making clean and simple (CAS) cards, two of the stamps sets in the most recent Lawn Fawn release immediately caught my eye. The first is the Simply Celebrate stamp set and the second if the Simply Sentiments stamp set. These two stamp sets coordinate beautifully for creating CAS cards. To illustrate that point, here’s a one layer card I created using these two stamp set.
Since this is a very clean and simple one layer card, ensuring everything is lined up straight is imperative since every little flaw will be so visible. To help with this, I used my Mini Misti to stamp the stars and sentiment using Jet Black ink from Lawn Fawn. After letting the ink dry for a few minutes, I colored in the stars in rainbow order using Copic markers in the following colors:
- Red – R24, R27, R39
- Orange – Y17, YR04, YR07
- Yellow – Y13, Y15, Y17
- Green – YG05, YG07, YG09
- Blue – B00, B02, B05
- Indigo – B21, B24, B26
- Violet – V20, V22, V25
To bring a bit of dimension to the card, I added a very subtle shadow around all of the stars. I used a technique I learned from Kathy Racoosin last weekend at her Coloring Challenge Road Trip at the Lawn Fawn headquarters. I’ve seen her use this shadowing technique in videos before, but it just made so much more sense after seeing it demoed in person!
I used a combination of W2 and C0 to create the shadow. In retrospect, I wish I had gone a bit darker to create some more contrast, but the subtle look is nice, too. It definitely helps the stars stand out a bit more than they did before I added the shadow.
To complete the card, I decided to add a little shimmer. I went over all the stars with the Clear Overlay Sparkle Pen from Spectrum Noir.
I’m entering this card in the following challenges:
- The Paper Players – the current theme is CAS rainbow.
- Lawn Fawnatics – the current theme is a rainbow color inspiration.
Until next time …
