Magical Unicorn

I decided to pull out the Magical Day stamp set from Stampin’ Up!® for my card today. I was really shocked as popular as this set has been to see it’s on the retiring list. If it’s one you’ve been wanting to pick up, now’s the time because it isn’t carrying over to the new catalog!

Mel's Card Corner | Magical Unicorn

I started by stamping the unicorn on a piece of Whisper White Cardstock. Since I planned to color it using my Stampin’ Blends alcohol markers, I stamped the image using Memento Tuxedo Black ink.

While I waited for the Memento ink to dry a bit, I focused on the sentiment. Since I wanted it to be multi-color, I decided to do the inking using my Stampin’ Write Markers instead of an ink pad. I also planned to do some double stamping, so I used my Stamparatus (available June 1) to ensure the stamp stayed in the same place the whole time.

I used Tranquil Tide to ink the smaller words across the top. For the rainbow colors in the word magical, I inked up and stamped each letter individually. This is where using the Stamparatus really came in handy!  I used Real Red, Pumpkin Pie, Daffodil Delight, Old Olive, Tempting Turquoise (retiring color), Pacific Point, and Rich Razzleberry. Once I had all of the sentiment stamped, I inked up the stamp one more time using VersaMark ink then heat embossed it using Clear Stampin’ Emboss Powder which gave it a lot of shine and some dimension.

I then turned my attention back to the unicorn. I colored it using Stampin’ Blends Markers. I used Light Bermuda Bay, Dark Pool Party, and Light Pool Party for the mane and tail. I used Dark Daffodil Delight and Light Daffodil Delight for the horn. Finally, I used Dark Smoky Slate, Light Smoky Slate, and the Color Lifter for the body of the unicorn along with Light Pink Pirouette (retiring color) to add a little color to the unicorn’s check. I cut out the unicorn using one of the stitched circles from the Stitched Shapes Framelits Dies along with the coordinating scalloped circle from the Layering Circle Framelits Dies cut from Tranquil Tide Cardstock.

I created a top-folding card base using Tranquil Tide Cardstock. To that, I added a layer of the cloud paper from the Myths & Magic Specialty Designer Series Paper using Snail Adhesive. I adhered the die cut unicorn circle to the Tranquil Tide scalloped circle using Snail. I added one Stampin’ Dimensional in the center of the back and used it to adhere a loose messy nest of Gold Metallic Thread. I then added a few more Dimensionals then adhered it to the card base.

I trimmed down the sentiment using my Stampin’ Trimmer. I added a fish tail finish to either end of the sentiment using my Paper Snips then adhered it the card, overlapping the circle die cuts slightly, using Stampin’ Dimensionals. For a final bit of embellishment, I added a coat of Clear Wink of Stella over the entire unicorn.

Until next time …
