Sponged Background Featuring Background Bits {video}

I haven’t done any sponging in a while, so I decided to pull one of my favorite techniques back out again for today’s card. I love the soft ink blended look achieved through sponging, especially when using pastel colors like the ones I’ve used today.

Several of the products I’m using today are on the Stampin’ Up!® Last Chance Products list. If you want any of these retiring products, be sure to grab them while they’re still available. Other than the stamp sets which are guaranteed through May 25, all other items are strictly available while supplies last.

I started by masking off the edges of my Whisper White layer using 1-inch Post-It tape. Using Stampin’ Sponges, I added Peekaboo Peach (retiring), Flirty Flamingo, and Calypso Coral inside the masked area. To give the background a bit of texture, I used the script background stamp from the Background Bits host set (retiring) using Smoky Slate ink that I stamped off once before stamping on my layer. Once I had filled the sponged area with the script, I removed the Post-It tape.

To ensure I got a super crisp black silhouette for my flowers and sentiment, I used my Stamparatus (available June 1) for the stamping. I used Archival Basic Black ink (retiring) and double stamped both images.

To assemble the card, I adhered the sponged/stamped layer to a Basic Black cardstock layer using Multipurpose Liquid Glue. I then adhered the matted focal panel to a card base made from Peekaboo Peach cardstock (retiring) using Snail Adhesive.

I also recorded a process video as I created this card. If you enjoy it, please head over to my YouTube channel and give me a thumbs up and subscribe to my channel if you haven’t already. Thanks!

I’m entering this card in the following challenges:
