DIY Plaid Backgrounds

Since I used some plaid patterned paper on my last card, I thought it would be fun today to show another card with a plaid background. In this case, however, I created the plaid myself using a diagonal stripe background stamp.

Using Grape Crush ink from Catherine Pooler Designs, I inked up the Peppermint Stick Background Stamp and stamped it on a piece of white cardstock. I cleaned the stamp then inked it up again using Catherine’s Lime Rickey ink. I rotated the stamp 90 degrees from how I stamped it the first time then stamped the same cardstock again to create the plaid design.

For the sentiment, I used the smile border die from the May Small Die of the Month Club by Spellbinders. I cut it from a piece of Mermaid cardstock from Lawn Fawn. For the stamped image, I used one of the sentiments from the Yay for You stamp set from My Favorite Things. I stamped it using Catherine’s Grape Crush ink, lining it up with the left edge of the Smile die cut word.

To assemble the card, I started by adhering the plaid panel to a top-folding card base using tape runner. I then adhered the die cut/stamped panel over that using foam tape.

I’m entering this card in the following challenge:

Until next time …
