“New” Craft Stash Blog Hop – Day 2

New Craft Stash Blog Hop

Thanks so much for joining me today as I kick off day two of the “New” Craft Stash Blog Hop. This hop came about because of a conversation which took place recently between a group of my crafty friends about all the things we have in our stash which we’ve never actually gotten around to using. My dear friend, Ingrid, thought it sounded like the perfect theme for a blog hop and set the wheels in motion. What resulted is an amazing three day blog hop full of some amazing designers and awesome projects!

I pulled out a few unused items from my stash for my card today. I’d never used the Shine On stamp and die set from Honey Bee Stamps, the Red Berry Sparkle Pen from Crafter’s Companion, or the Crystal Glaze from Tonic.

I started by stamping the bottle using Jet Black ink from Lawn Fawn since I planned to do some Copic coloring. I colored the polish portion of the bottle with the Red Berry Sparkle pen then colored the cap with Copic Markers in C1, C3, and C5. I cut out the bottle using the coordinating dies. I stamped the You sentiment from the stamp set on a piece of Midnight cardstock from Catherine Pooler Designs then heat embossed it using Opaque Bright White Embossing Powder from WOW! I also cut it out using the shadow die from the coordinating die set.

I trimmed a piece of white cardstock from Catherine Pooler Designs to 3-7/8 x 5-1/8″. I stamped another sentiment from the stamp set along the bottom of the panel using VersaFine Onyx Black ink. I created a ground for the bottle to sit on using Copic Markers in C3, C1, and the 0 Colorless Blender. Using liquid adhesive, I adhered the white panel to a mat created from more of Catherine’s Midnight cardstock cut to 4 x 5-1/4″ then adhered the combined layers to the card base.

After getting the card basically assembled, I adhered the nail polish bottle to the card using thin foam squares. This gave it a little bit of dimension, but still keeps the card fairly flat. I adhered the die cut You to the bottle using more of the thin foam squares. To make the bottle look more like glass, I added a generous coat of Crystal Glaze from Tonic.

Since I popped the You sentiment up on foam squares, it allowed me to float the Crystal Glaze underneath it. You could add the Crystal Glaze first then adhere your sentiment, but I wanted it to look like the “you” was printed on the bottle vs. being raised up and felt like floating the glaze beneath it would better achieve that look.

I know my card today is a bit on the simple side, but sometimes simple can be very dramatic. I’m in the process of packing to move, so my time for crafting is at a minimum right now. I hope to get back to posting more consistently with more detailed cards once I get the move behind me in a few weeks.

I’m dedicating (and sending) this card to a dear friend of mine. Her husband, despite only being in his early 30s, is battling stage four metastatic colon cancer. If not for catching a horrible case of the flu this winter and landing in the hospital, they may not have found it until it was too late. There are still no guarantees, but at least he has a fighting chance and has some of the best doctors in Birmingham treating him. I can’t imagine how hard all of this is for her. She tries so hard to keep up a brave face so their five year old daughter doesn’t get scared and can live as normal a life as possible as they fight this battle together. She’s an amazing woman and is DEFINITELY tough as nails! I chose red for the nail polish color in honor of her love of all things Crimson Tide. This one’s for you, Cyndi!!! <3
