Tone on Tone Christmas Card

For today’s card, I wanted to create a bit of an elegant tone-on-tone effect. I think it turned out really lovely.

I started by stamping a piece of Cherry Red cardstock from Gina K. Designs with the Peace Love and Doves background stamp from Catherine Pooler Designs. I stamped the image with VersaMark ink then heat it set it using clear embossing powder. This gave me the tone-on-tone look I wanted for this card. If you have a red embossing powder, you could use that as well.

After letting the embossing cool, I trimmed the panel down 3-7/8 x 5-1/8″. I mounted it on a top-folding card base made from ivory cardstock, also from Gina K., using tape runner adhesive.

For the sentiment, I used the Merry Christmas word die and shadow die from the recent Home for the Holidays Stamp of Approval collection. I die cut the words three dies from the same red cardstock and the shadow once from the ivory. Since the word dies are so delicate, I applied some Stick It adhesive to the back of the cardstock before I ran it through my Big Shot. This made it so much easier to adhere the words together to stack them. Once they were all stacked, I adhered them to the shadow then adhered that to the card.

I hope you’ve enjoyed this tone-on-tone look today. I’ll be back again soon with another card to hopefully inspire you.

Until next time …
