Springtime Birthday

Now that we’re officially a full week in Spring, I thought it would be fun to use spring colors to create a birthday card. Here’s what I created. As always, you can click any of the images for a larger view.

Mel's Card Corner | Springtime Birthday Card

I used the fun Hand Delivered host set from the Stampin’ Up!® annual catalog for this card. This stamp set will be retiring at the end of the May, so if you would like to get your hands on it, I would do it sooner rather than later. You can only purchase it using Stampin’ Rewards by hosting a party (or placing your own order) with over $150 in sales.

Stamp both of the main images (the skirt/legs image and the cake image) on a piece of Whisper White cardstock using Memento Tuxedo Black. To ensure the ink wouldn’t bleed when coloring the image, dry the ink for about a minute or so using the low setting on my Heat Tool. Once dried, color the image using Stampin’ Blends alcohol markers. Here are the colors I used, but you can use any colors you like.

After the coloring is finished, it’s time to assemble the card. Create a top-folding card base using Whisper White Thick cardstock. Adhere a layer of Pool Party polka dot paper from the Subtles 6×6″ Designer Series Paper pack using Multipurpose Liquid Glue. Mat the stamped image on a piece of Pool Party cardstock cut 1/8″ larger each way to give just a tiny border on all sides. Adhere the matted layer to the card base using Stampin’ Dimensionals.

Stamp the Happy Birthday sentiment from the stamp set on a 1/2″ strip of Pool Party cardstock using VersaMark ink. Be sure to use the Embossing Buddy on the cardstock before stamping to remove any static. After stamping, apply White Stampin’ Emboss Powder then set with the Heat Tool.

Use Paper Snips to create a flag end on the left side then adhere to the card. Use Multipurpose Liquid Glue on the section that will be adhered to the stamped layer and add one Stampin’ Dimensional to the end that will be hanging off. This will keep all the layers even on the card.

Apply some Wink of Stella for a final bit of embellishment. I added a generous coating to each of the cake layers, not including the flowers. I think this help give the look of a nice sugary frosting.

I’m entering this card in the following challenges:
