Bike Ride Birthday

As you might be able to tell from my past couple of cards, I’m definitely in a Spring mood. I’ve been using lots of flowers and/or pretty pastel Spring/Easter colors. Today’s card is no exception.

Mel's Card Corner | Bike Ride Birthday

I wanted to create an outdoor scene for the awesome bike from the Bike Ride stamp set and coordinating Framelits from Stampin’ Up!® Instead of having to watercolor or sponge a sky and grass background, I decided to use the Gingham Gala DSP.

Being born and raised in the south, I do love a good gingham and this paper is definitely a good gingham. There is a larger scale on one side and a smaller scale of the same color on the reverse side which makes it very versatile. Since one of the colors in this paper pack is a soon to be retiring In Color (Lemon Lime Twist), this paper will also retire on June 3 when the Occasions catalog is over. So, if you like this paper, I would recommend grabbing it before it gone.

Here are the ink colors I used for stamping all the components of the bicycle. Since the bike uses a lot of the Two-Step Stamping technique, I highly recommend using the Stamparatus for the stamping.

  • Frame, basket holder, and tire rims: Blueberry Bushel
  • Seat, hand grips, and pedals: Balmy Blue
  • Tires, spokes, and floral outline: Memento Tuxedo Black
  • Basket outline: Soft Suede
  • Basket filler: Crumb Cake
  • Flowers: Berry Burst (another soon to be retiring color)
  • Leaves: Lemon Lime Twist

The Happy Birthday sentiment is from the Vertical Greetings stamp set. Using my Stamparatus again, I stamped it first in Blueberry Bushel ink, then cleaned my stamp and stamped it a second time using VersaMark ink. I added some clear Stampin’ Emboss powder then set it using my Heat Tool. I love the added dimension and shine you get from heat embossing a sentiment. I created the flag banner on the end of the sentiment strip using the Tailored Tag Punch.

To assemble the card:

  • Adhere a piece of the large scale Balmy Blue Gingham Gala paper to a card base made from Whisper White Thick cardstock.
  • Adhere a strip of the small scale Lemon Lime Twist Gingham Gala paper near the bottom of the card.
  • To diffuse the background behind the bike, adhere an oval cut out from Vellum Cardstock using the largest oval in the Layering Ovals Framelits. Be sure to apply the adhesive behind areas which will be hidden by the bike and basket.
  • Adhere the sentiment banner to the card.
  • Adhere the bike to the card allowing the front tire to slightly overlap the sentiment banner. Don’t forget to position the bike so it covers the adhesive behind the vellum.
  • Adhere the basket to the card above the basket holder.
  • For a final bit of embellishment, apply a coat of clear Wink of Stella over the bike frame and basket holder. This step is optional, but all the bikes had sparkly paint when I was growing up, so I wanted a sparkly bike on my card, too. 🙂

I’m entering this card in the following challenge(s):

  • Global Design Project – the current theme is Day at the Park. Riding a bike seems like the perfect activity for a day at the park.
  • The Payer Players – the current theme is a Tic Tac Toe challenge. I used the diagonal of die-cutting, embossing, and floral.
  • Seize the Birthday – the current theme is Anything Goes Birthday with the optional theme of Spring.

I hope you’ve enjoyed my card today. If you live in the United States and would like to purchase any of the products I’ve used, you will find a supply list below my signature. Yep, getting the bikes out after a long winter is a sign of spring for me! (Probably not for you where you live so much… :P) Love the gingham papers as a background for the bicycle. Thanks for linking up with us at Seize the Birthday!
