Want to hear a dirty little secret about me? I’m notorious for purchasing online classes, but never actually completing them. I usually finish the first couple of lessons, but then just kind of stop. Oops! I have a huge backlog of classes I’ve never completed, so I’ve decided it’s time to rectify that situation.
Today’s card was inspired by one of the lessons from the All About Layering class at Altenew Academy. If you aren’t familiar with how to use layering stamps, this would be a great class to take! The class is taught by Nicole Picadura. In addition to being a wondering card maker, she is also the Operations Director for Altenew.
I created the focal image using three of the large flower images from the Whimsical Flowers stamp set by Altenew. Since I wanted to layer the images behind each other, I stamped each flower using Altenew Jet Black ink then masked it off and stamped the next one. I continued this process until I had all the outline images stamped in a loose wreath shape.
I filled in the color on all the images using more Altenew inks. I used Mango Smoothie for the light yellow flowers, Warm Sunshine for the darker yellow flowers, Carmel Toffee for the flower centers, and Frayed Leaf for the leaves. To give the stamped images a bit more dimension, I added some simple shading using the coordinating Altenew Artist Markers.
For the sentiment, I stamped the miss you from the Garden Silhouette Stamp Set. I stamped it on a piece of black cardstock with VersaMark ink then heat embossed it in white.
To assemble the card, I created a top-folding card base from white cardstock. I adhered a piece of the Altenew Dotted Washi Top over the entire card front to give the background a bit of texture and interest. Once applied, I trimmed away the excess. I mounted the focal panel on a piece of black cardstock then adhered it to the center of the card front with foam tape then added the sentiment to the middle of the flowers using some thin foam squares. For a final touch, I added some clear Wink of Stella to the center of all the flowers.
I’m entering this card in the following challenge(s):
- Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge – the current theme is anything goes.
- Simon Says Stamp IG Challenge – the current theme is summer cards.
Thanks for stopping by my blog today. I hope you enjoyed the project I’ve shared. Until next time …
