AAA Cards #149 – Use One Third

AAA #149 - Up to One Third

It’s time for another new challenge over at AAA Cards! The theme for our new challenge is to use ONLY up to one third of the card for your design. We also have an optional twist of using an inlaid die. I opted not to use the twist in my design team card for this challenge.

Our guest designer for this round is the very talented Joy Dsouza from Handcrafted by Joy. The sponsor for this round is Funky Fossil Designs who have generously offered up a £15.00 store credit for the winner.

Mel's Card Corner | AAA #149 - Up to One Third

For my designs, I started by creating the ground for my card. I placed a mask about 1-1/2″ up from the bottom of the card then did some ink blending using Distress Oxide inks. I used Fired Brick, Ripe Persimmon, and Fossilized Amber for the blending. I removed the mask then let the blending dry for a bit.

Once the blending was dry, I stamped the little mouse image which is from the Harvest Mouse stamp set by My Favorite Things. I lined the image up so the bottom of the mouse’s sweater was right at the top of the ink blending line. This meant most of the leaves were actually stamped over the ink blending which was exactly what I wanted. I also stamped the sentiment which is from the Moonlight stamp set by Winnie & Walter. I did all the stamping using Amalgam Black ink from Gina K. Designs.

After letting the Amalgam ink dry for a few minutes, I colored the rest of the mouse image using Copic markers. Since most of the leaves were stamped over the ink blending, I didn’t do any coloring on them. For the ones above the ink blending line, I just filled them in using a single marker without doing any shading since they were so tiny. Here are the Copic colors I used:

  • Mouse: W1, W3, W5, R20
  • Sweater: R22, R24, R39
  • Vest: B95, B97, B99
  • Leaves: Y28, YR27, R39

To assemble the card, I created a top-folding card base from some Crushed Curry cardstock from Stampin’ Up!® I adhered the focal panel to the card front using some Big Momma foam tape from Simon Says Stamp and that completed my card.

I’m entering this card in the following challenge(s):

Thanks so much for stopping by my blog today. I hope you’ve enjoyed this fun CAS project. Please be sure to head over to AAA Cards to play along with our current challenge. As always, please remember to keep your card CAS which, for us, means plenty of white space free of images, texture, pattern, etc. with minimal layers and embellishments.
